The purpose of this article is to keep everyone up to date on the status of ACiD and the many projects we're engaged with right now. Subscription to this distribution list means that you are or once were an active member of the ACiD family. This includes members of ANSi Creators in Demand/ACiD Productions, pHluid Music Group, Remorse ASCII, ACiDic BBS Modifications, any subsidiary organizations, and SysOps of ACiD affiliated bulletin boards/sites. Distribution will take place on a semi-monthly basis, as time permits, major events draw close, and newsworthy items occur. ...CURRENT EVENTS Presently, ACiD is in the process of producing a new ASCII artpack and Music Disk. The Remorse artpack (#49) will be available on the main "Current" section of www.acid.org by May 6th, 2003 and the pHluid Music Disk volume 45 will debut shortly after. The ACiD hirez artpack, Acquisition Update #99 is currently slated to be released the first week of June. ...ACiD-100 PROJECT What is ACiD-100? ACiD-100 is short for the "100th ACiD Acquisition Update", a concept started by ACiD back in 1992 of releasing packs of digital artwork and distributing them electronically. This is a tradition that has been practiced by ACiD for over a decade, and literally hundreds of groups have imitated (the highest form of flattery) and continue to practice to this very day. But in this case it's not just a number which breaks us in to the triple digits. For me, ACiD-100 marks my final release with ACiD, my final curtain call if you will. There are many special plans in the works for this pack. We will be showcasing ANSI once more, which has been absent since 1997. In addition to ANSI, many other mediums are being accepted: ASCII, BIN/XBIN, RIPscrip, JPEG/JFIF, MPEG2, Flash/HTML, MP3, OGG, and many more. It's important to note that you are not required to submit artwork in the medium you originally worked in. We will consider any submission under 25MB as long as it is un-released and does not contain any commercial/copyright material, A short FAQ regarding ACiD-100 is available at: http://www.acid.org/radman/acid-100/acid-100.faq.txt ...THE PRODUCT MAGAZINE Aside from the monolith that is becoming ACiD-100, we are also diligently working to assemble a third and final edition of THE PRODUCT electronic magazine. The focus of this issue is an intimate one; you. The intent is to capture how "the scene", which ever one you've been involved in, worked and how it changed over time during your stay. Basically, we are calling upon those who are interested to write autobiographical articles about their scene experiences. Whats interesting is, based on the few dozen bio articles I've received so far, is that several of them are already beginning to fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Everyone that held a position in the group left something behind for the next person to carry on, and it is clearly demonstrated in these texts. I've even learned alot myself about ACiD since this particular project began. Everyone I've spoken with has expressed a major interest in reading other members stories, their humble beginnings up to where they're at right now. A few weeks ago I discovered that one of our ANSI artists who joined us in 1993 is now responsible for the 3D effects in a movie we're all bound to see this month -- Matrix: Reloaded. But you'll have to wait until The Product 3 to find out who. :) Back issues are available at: ftp://ftp.artpacks.acid.org/pub/artpacks/mags/1992/product.zip ftp://ftp.artpacks.acid.org/pub/artpacks/mags/1996/product2.zip ...ACiD REAL-LIFE REUNION Throughout our existence ACiD has had many meets. We've had our share of "ACiD cons", ACiD member get togethers in various parts of Northern California and Ohio. We've also represented ourselves at several demoparties, with our strongest showing at NAID in 1996. In 2004 we have plans to outdo ourselves at the Assembly 2004 Demoparty in Helsinki, Finland (www.assembly.org). Right now, the bulk of our active members reside in a European country or Russia. I can't think of a better place for us to meet than one of the longest standing and most reputable demoparties still in existence. Yes, this party is well over a year away, Assembly 2003 has not even taken place. There are several key reasons for this. One is we have only made contact with 1/3rd of the group another is we want to allow plenty of time for those interested on the other side of the ocean to make the necessary preparations, save money, obtain a passport, etc. ...STATISTICS The first thing I did before taking on the responsibility of compiling the grand-daddy of all artpacks was compile an all-time memberlist. You might be wondering how many unique individuals have been a part of our organization over the past 13 years. Between 1990-2002 exactly 655 people have all helped make ACiD in to what it is today. That figure does not account for the new members who have joined in 2003. :) The second step after building this ACiD database of sorts is to try to make contact, letting our members from the past know that we're still alive, very active, and are holding a reunion of multiple sorts, artistically, textually and physically. Out of those 655, I've personally managed to reach 224 and continue to locate 5-10 new folks on a weekly basis without slowing down. Please do not hesitate to help by forwarding this email to ACiD members you keep in touch with. During the month of April I received 1,763 new emails. I reply to all of them, but some times it can take a week or two. :) ...CLOSING I hope this made for a worth-while read and set an informative foundation on the on-goings within the group from a birds eye view. If you have any questions that are not covered within this document and/or the FAQ, just send me an email or catch me on an instant messenger...
